A Poem a Week

A Poem a Week

(for a new challenge)

$100   5 weeks / 90 min each week

Min 4  / Max 10

___________________

Join this five-week Poem-a-Week experience of reading, reflecting, creating, learning, and sharing.   We follow a structure of Absorb-Reflect-Create:  each week we dive into one poem and branch off from it with reflective exercises meant to inspire us and connect us with texts, each other, and ourselves. Then we spend a good portion of the class creating in whatever ways feel right for each of us during each class.

This is not a course about how to analyze poetry.

It is about how poetry can support us, be meaningful to us

in our daily lives, and fuel our own creative processes.

What do you wonder about your draft?

What do you wish for its future?

We will alternate weeks between revision strategies and

generative work.  For the first class, please bring a draft poem

Losing the fear of poetry

Losing the fear of poetry

Losing the fear of poetry

“I signed up for the Poetry for Being Present course with a bit of doubt because poetry seemed a bit far away from me, but from day one it became an oasis in the midst of the  madness. It helped me to take a break every week, to turn my internal bustle into a dialogue with myself, to discover in myself new ways of creating and to relate to poetry from my own perspective and above all from a place of enjoyment. Bonus points because Amy is an outstanding facilitator!! If you, like me, are interested in exploring other ways to connect with your emotions, or just want to try something different, I highly recommend treating yourself to this space. It took away my fear of relating to poetry and it changed my life.” -Francis

“When Amy decided to offer a poetry workshop for adults, I signed up, twice! I am not a poet, I thought, but anything that Amy loves as much as she loves poetry will be worthwhile—and fun! So there we were on Zoom, challenged to have fun with alliteration or freewriting to get ideas after being inspired by photographs, or “tracing” our poems by following the structure in a published poem. The results amazed me. I became alive to the possibility of poetry and how much fun writing it is.  And I learned to treasure our little Zoom community. Amy did the assignments with us, but somehow she managed not to intimidate but to inspire us. Her poetry infected us with enthusiasm and courage.”
